Aaliyah starred opposite martial artist Jet Li, playing a couple who fall in dear amid their warring families. It grossed US$18.half dozen million in its outset weekend, reaching number two at the box office.[1] In add-on to acting, Aaliyah served as an executive producer of the film soundtrack, to which she contributed 4 songs, including "Endeavour Again".[2] Aaliyah revealed that the product team "actually talked near the soundtrack before we even shot the movie".[3]

"Endeavor Over again" was recorded at Sound on Sound Studios in New York Metropolis and was originally written as an inspirational song.[4] Information technology was written by Stephen "Static Major" Garrett and Timothy "Timbaland" Mosley, and produced by the latter.[5] Co-ordinate to engineer Jimmy Douglass, it was "written to inspire young people, merely Barry [Hankerson] heard it and told them, 'It's got to exist about love'."[4] After all the changes were made to the vocal, the tune and hook remained the same but the lyrics became dearest-themed.[four] On the song Aaliyah "encourages a potential partner not to surrender on her".[half dozen]

Music and lyrics [edit]

Musically, "Endeavour Over again" is an R&B, dance-popular and electro song.[7] [eight] Its production "skews more than toward the fuzzy electronic sounds of the future than the thumping hip-hop beats of the past".[9] Yahoo! Music, formally known as "Launch", mentioned that the vocal's audio is associated with Detroit techno.[10] "Endeavour Again", likewise utilizes a mixture of hip-hop and early on EDM of the 2000'due south.[xi] On the song, "Aaliyah'southward voice is equally nimble as always, slinkily sliding over the synth line and icing the techno-inspired beat out with her R&B finesse".[9] In the vocal's intro, Timbaland pays homage to Eric B. & Rakim past interpolating the duo'southward opening verse from "I Know You Got Soul".[12]

The chorus line "If at first you don't succeed, so dust yourself off and try again" is hypnotically repeated in a way similar to the sampling and vocal manipulation found in house music.[xiii] According to Musicnotes, the vocal is composed in the primal of C minor and is set in time signature of common time with a tempo of 92 beats per minute, while Aaliyah'due south vocal range spans from M 3 to G 4.[5]
